DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENT, ESI PGIMSR, BASAIDARAPUR, NEW DELHI

INFRASTRUCTURE:

The department of ENT is an integral part of ESI Hospital & PGIMSR and Occupational Disease centre. It is situated in the Old Ward Block with the OPD wing consisting of OPD consultation rooms, Departmental museum, Audiometry room, Minor OT, BERA room, Videonystagmography room and Temporal bone dissection lab.

Indoor facility is available with 12 beds on the 3rd Floor of the Old Ward Block. ENT Operation Theatre is a modular OT, situated on the third floor of the OT block. The ENT Emergency is functional round the clock on all days of the week on Ground Floor of the Casualty Department.

EQUIPMENTS:

the department is well equipped with following-

  • Puretone Audiometer
  • Impedance Audiometer
  • Videonystagmogram
  • BERA
  • Flexible Fibreoptic Laryngoscope
  • Operating Microscopes- Zeiss & Karl kaps
  • FESS equipment – nasal endoscopes ( 0 ̊,25 ̊ & 70 ̊) with Microdebrider, Endocamera & Video Monitor
  • Oesophagoscopy equipment
  • Microlaryngeal Surgery Equipment
  • Micromotor Drill systems
  • Radiofrequency cautery system

  • Dr. N.K. Jindal – Specialist (SAG) & HOD cum Professor Designate
  • Dr. Pooja Kataria Jain – Specialist (Grade II) cum Assistant Professor Designate

SERVICES PROVIDED:

The Department provides OPD Consultation to approximately 120 patients daily. Minor OT services and Audiometry facilities are well equipped including special investigations like Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry & Videonystagmography.

We admit about 40-50 patients per month. In the Casualty, on an average 80 patients are attended per month. The Department runs Operative procedures on two days (Wednesday & Saturday) of the week on two OT tables. Apart from the major Non-Oncological procedures like Modified Radical Mastoidectomy, Tympanoplasties, Stapedotomy, MLS, Tonsillectomy, Direct Laryngoscopy, Oesophagoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Salivary gland excision, Septoplasty, Nasal Fracture reductions, Rhinoplasty, Endoscopic DCR, etc ; major Oncological procedures like Laryngectomy, Total Thyroidectomy, Neck dissections, Maxillectomy, some flap reconstructions, etc. are also undertaken. On an average, 450 major surgeries are done every year.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITES INCLUDING PUBLICATIONS TILL DATE, RESEARCH WORKS GOING ON AND PLANNED :

Regular teaching of residents and case presentations/seminars are held in the department. Dr. Jindal has 10 publications in indexed journals and Dr. Pooja K. Jain has 5 publications in indexed journals.

FUTURE PLANS:

We plan to start Cochlear Implantation by the end of this year in our Department, and hope to start postgraduate courses in the near future.
